Cubby is now a Grandfather!

Here is my my first Grandchild, Austin Timothy Carlon Dobbs. Congrats to my youngest daughter Jackie and her boyfriend Tim on the birth of Austin at 8:02 AM on 8/26/2010. Austin weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz. and measured 20 1/2 inches in body length. Can't wait to take him Disc Golfing!

Cubby and Miguel at Tyler State Park.

Headed out for a day of Disc Golf with Miguel. We started at Tyler for the battle of past Jersey Jam Am Grandmaster Champs. Miguel took the win but it was a close 27th hole finish.

The next course we played was a new 9 hole course at Mercer County Park.

No picture for the third course we played at New Egypt High School. This is a new 9 hole course.

It was great to spend the day with Miguel playing Disc Golf.

Monday Morning Night Disc Golf at Rutgers

Mike, Cubby, Ryan, and Tom.

Headed up to Rutgers after work on Sunday for a round of Disc Golf. We got to the course after 2AM on Monday.

Ryan took up the challenge of hitting the smal red star with a single dart to get Tom to join us for Disc Golf. It was a nice shot!

We played one round and I got my 436th Ace on the next to the last hole . It was a nice Skip Ace with a Star Max. (We started on Hole 8 and finished on hole 7). I shot -11. After the round, I headed back to work to finish cleaning the store before heading home.

Today SGT. James (last name left out for security reasons) stopped in my store to bring back my Innova Pro Firebird that I gave him on December 05, 2008 to take with him to IRAQ. He kept it with him there and the disc got air time all over the country. I will post some pictures as soon as he e-mails them to me. It was great to see him return safe and I enjoyed visiting with him and his lovely family today. I will definately be retiring the Firebird to the trophy cabinet.

Cubby and Tim

I got home from work at 4:00Am and my youngest daughter's boyfriend Tim wanted to play Disc Golf so we headed up to Rutgers. We started at 5:47AM and finished at 8:10AM. We got in 4 rounds. I shot -10, -11, -11, and -10. This was Tim's first time on a course and he scored +7, +1, +5, +2. I chained out a number of times and hit metal off the tee but could not buy an Ace. I think Tim is now hooked on Disc Golf.

Headed up to Rutgers for some long overdue Disc Golf. The was the first chance I had to try out some new discs from the good people over at Disc Golf Station. Check out there link to the right of this page. They sent me 5 Discraft Meteor Golf Discs. My favorite midrange disc is the Discraft Flex Buzzz so I wanted to see how the Meteor was going to fly.

The Discraft Meteor, 5 times sweet!

After playing rounds for three hours with the Meteor I was really impressed with how well it performed at every speed. With the right disc angle and speed combination this disc did it all. I even liked putting with it. I also got my 435th Ace with a 177 gram Meteor. Move over Buzzz the Meteor has arrived!

Thursday Night / Friday Morning Disc Golf at Rutgers with Big John

After a long day at work ending late in the night on Thursday, I headed up to Rutgers for some Disc Golf. I sent a text message to Big John letting him know I was on my way to the course and as luck would have it, he was on his way home from work and said he would meet me at Rutgers for one round of Disc Golf.

We played match play and I won 4 up with 3 holes left. I had three ace runs hitting the pole on 9 and just missing chains on a skip run on 1 and a high cut shot on 6.

It was great to throw a round with Big John again. We hit a couple of golf balls afterwards and after John left I continued hitting golf balls and then continued to play more Disc Golf.

I got my 423, 424, and 425 Aces. On my 423rd Ace I used a Star Avair for a putter only round (the same disc Big John is holding in his hand in the photo we took together above). On my 424th Ace I was just about to throw and stopped to let a couple walk by. Looking back at my shot, they thought it was cool to see my skip shot hit the clains and land in the basket.

Wednesday Disc Golf at Rutgers and Manalapan. Firebirds versus the wind.

Headed over to Rutgers Disc Golf Course after dropping off my Sister, Brother-in-Law, and Niece at the JFK airport for their trip back home to the west coast after coming out for my middle Daughters Wedding. I got my 421st Ace, a lefty skip ace.

After playing at Rutgers, I headed to the Manalapan Recreation Center Disc Golf Course. I got my 422nd Ace on a very windy day. I threw a very wide shot due to the fierce cross wind and from my vantage point it was one of the widest shots I have ever thrown for an Ace. I got the shot on video but threw it so wide that you don't see much of the flight of the disc until the wind carries it hard back to the basket. This is my first Ace video of the year. You can hear on onlooker say get in the hole as I was throwing my drive on the Ace.

Spent the day with Kevin Mc Gorry (Producer, Cameraman for Disc Golf Monthly). We visited some Central Jersey Disc Golf Courses filming me playing the courses in the snow and slush. This will be a future Disc GOlf Monthly Episode. Here we are at Rutgers getting in a round before starting filming.

We started filming at the 9 hole course in Manalapan. Kevin's first use of his new video camera for Disc Golf footage.

Headed up to Rutgers Disc Golf Course after work on Friday for some Disc Golf. I played from 5:30 PM on Friday to 1:30 AM on Saturday. Conditions were windy with wind chill in the single digits. I think I have frost bite on the tip of my thumb on my right hand, but it seems to be coming back to life. I got my 411th, 412th, and 413th Aces, all Skip Aces.

I also played one round of Disc Golf in Philadelphia last week but I did not have my camera and did post a blog entry about playing there.

Rob's Annual Birthday Disc Golf Event at Bunker Hill

Headed over to Rob Z's private Bunker Hill Disc Golf Course on Sunday morning for his annual Birthday Disc Golf Event. We had a 11 Disc Golfers at this event, the last BH Tag round for 2009 and new tags for 2010-2011. During the round we had some hot apple cider. No aces but some of the particpants were ringing chains.

It rained for during round but it was a good time. Max took top honors with a 49.

After the round we had pizza. Happy Birthday Rob!

On my way back to New Jersey from the Disc Golf Event in Virginia I played 3 courses. Here I am ast first light at Calvert Park DGC in MD.

My next stop was Seneca Creek Park DGC in MD. I played doubles with some of the locals. A nice bunch of Disc Golfers. Steve and I edged out Don and Roel for the win.

My last stop was at Riverview DGC in NJ. I enjoyed all of the Disc Golf I got to play recently but now it is time to rest and recouperate.

Every year I try to get back down to Virginia where I learned how to play Disc Golf. It always great to see my old Disc Golf friends and compete in the tournament where I got my first PDGA tournament victory as an Inermediate AM player at the 1st Fall Colors event in 1998. This year I competed in the Advanced Grandmasters Division.

Here is the group I played with during the first round. The 3 players in this group were competing in the Pro Grandmaster Divison. (Lewis ended up winning the Pro Grandmaster Division) Peter turned 50 today. I shot a 67 the first round.

After the first round we had a great lunch provided by the event staff.

I was tied for first with Tom after the first round and Stuart and Bob were two strokes back. Stuart was the 2006 PDGA Advanced Grandmasters Disc Golf World Champion. I competed with him in the Advaced Masters Division at the 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 Am Worlds. A new Job in 2004 prevented me from future competition at the Worlds. During this round, I shot a 64 to take first in the ADV GM Div. Stuart and Bob tied for second 5 stokes back.

Playing New Quarter was a real treat today as this challenging long and wooded course was played for the first time with new basket positions, most of them in a longer position. This is one of the best courses around! Congrats to everyone that works hard to make this a great course and a great tournament.

I also had the pleasure of throwing 7 holes in practice before the event with the 2004 Junior PDGA Disc Golf World Champion Shane Lynch. Shane won his title at 12 years old. I got to play lots of rounds with Shane and his Dad Mark back in 1998. It was great to see all the regulars I used to play with when I lived in Virginia. I am looking forward to next November.

Saturday Disc Golf at Newport News Park and Bennett's Creek Park Disc Golf Courses.

Headed over to the Newort News Park Disc Golf Course for some rounds. This was my home course back in 1998. I learned how to play Disc Golf on this course and I try to get back every November for the Fall Tournament. I got my 406th Ace. A lefty skip Ace. After I finished playing I headed to another course.

I spent the rest of the day at Bennett's Creek Disc Golf Course. I got to throw a round and a half with some of the locals. They were a fun and spirited group of Disc Golfers.

Drove up to Karl's house arriving at 5:30AM and then we headed to Alexandria Town Park Disc Golf Course. The course currently has 15 basket and will have the other 3 baskets installed in the near future. We played 34 holes.

The next course we played was Nockamixon Park Disc Golf Course. We played 36 holes. A great, long difficult course. Zaps the joy right out of you :) I wish I had a nickle for every tree I hit or rock I stumbled over.

Here we are at Tinicum Park Disc Golf Course. We played 18 holes. The joy is coming back.

Not much light left in the day so we headed back to Alexandria for 16 Holes.

It was a fun and tiring day. We got in 104 holes. I picked up some new and used discs at Karl's house.

Headed up to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course after work on Tuesday for some rounds of Disc Golf. I got to play with Crash, Tom, and Ben. During one round Ben got two aces in the same round. The first one came at 8:51 PM on Hole 18 and the second one came at 9:13 PM on Hole 7. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me. Way to go Ben!!!!!!!!!!!! The first time I have seen someone other than myself hit two aces in the same round. This was my first time throwing with Ben, he certainly left a lasting impression on me.

Headed up to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course around dinner time for some rounds of Disc Golf with Big John. We played three rounds. Big John won the first round 7 under to 6 under, Cubby won the second round 6 under to 5 under, and Cubby won the third round 11 under to 2 under. Spook Handy joined us during the third round. It was great to get out on the course with Big John again!

Thursday Disc Golf at Rutgers

After work on Thursday I headed up to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course for some rounds of Disc Golf. When I got to the 18th hole during my first round, I noticed a car parked on the circle near the left side of the tree that hides 18's basket. I put my bag on the tee sign and walked to the vehicle to ask the young lady if she could move the vehicle showing her my yelow firebird and explaining that I was going to throw the disc to the adjacent basket and her car might be in the way. She moved the vehicle to the other side of the circle and I walked back to the tee. I took the yellow firebird that I had carried down to her car and threw it lefty and made a nice skip shot for my 401st Ace. She waved to me from her car in approval. A pretty cool Ace for sure. That would have been cool to capture that all on video. On the next round I missed the Ace on Hole 9 when my disc bounced out of the basket. I continued to play until it got dark and then I headed home.

Headed over to Max's Debunker Hill Disc Golf Course for the 2nd Annual Battle of Jersey Disc Golf Tournament. This eventis played on 3 private Disc Golf courses (The Debunker Hill course is available public play). We had a nice breakfast before the event started.

After the event we grilled Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and Bratwursts. Miguel's Chili was delicious!

After the event, Don and I headed to Rutgers for some more Disc Golf. We played two rounds of skins, a buck a hole 50 cents a CTP. Don won 3 bucks both rounds.

Tom joined us during the rounds and Tom and I played a round after Don left. It was great to hear that Tom has 5 Aces since I last played Disc Golf with him. He has some black aces too. Tom has my twitter updates goiung to his phone like Miguel so we should get to play lots or rounds together in the future.

It was my day off today but I did not leave the house until the afternoon. I headed up to Greenwood Meadows Disc Golf Course and got my 400th Ace! A sweet video Ace in a strong headwind. I have not played much Disc Golf in the last 3 weeks. Tennis, Bocce and Ball Golf are cutting into my Disc Golf time.

Wednesday Disc Golf at Rutgers wih Team Poland and a day at the 2009 US Open Tennis Championships

I picked up three of my International studrents at 4:30AM and headed to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course for a round before heading to NYC to see the 2009 Tennis US Open Championships. Karoloina played Disc Golf last year with me but it was the first time for sisters Magdalena and Michilina. No Ace for me but we saw 4 deer running through the course.

After Disc Golf, we headed to NYC for the 2009 US Open Tennis Chasmpionships. I got to see 5 matches. The most notable players I got to watch were Venus Willams and Rafael Nadale. We had a great time and headed home around 9:30PM.

Headed up to Monville, NJ to play Bocce Ball with my team members, Petey, Gene, and Joe. We are playing in a Bocce Tournament in late September and we wanted to play at the event location. Gene and I played well as a team.

On Tuesday I played ball golf with Petey and Captain Joe P. at Forge Pond. Captain Joe beat me by 4 shots. It was a nice day on the course.

After Ball Golf I headed to rob's Bunker Hill Disc Golf Course for two rounds. I was hoping to get my 400th at Rob's but only a close call was in order. Rob took the first round and I took the second one. After Rob's I headed home for some sleep.

Cubby at Rutgers late Tuesday Night

Here is a update on my recent sporting activities:

On Monday morning with only two of hours sleep, I played 5 rounds of Bocce Ball with Petey, Joe, and Gene. Joe and and I won 4 of the 5 games. After Bocce Ball it was off to work.

On Tuesday morning With only 3 hours of sleep I played a round of Ball Golf (walking not riding) on a hot day. My game was off but a par 5 on the 18th was a good finish. After Ball Golf it was off to work.

After I finished work on Tuesday night, (Had to switch my day off to this upcoming Friday so I can see my favorite band in concert, Chicago.) as tired as I was, I decided that I was going to play Disc Golf, especially considering a recent message from a YOUTUBE viewer telling me that he plays in any weather or condition cause Cubby does it, that was all the motivation I needed to go out and play.

As Tuesday night changed over to Wednesday morning, I got my 397th, 398th, and 399th Aces. After hitting Ace 399, I decided to go home and get some sleep as I want to make a roadtrip for the 400th.

BTW, I want to thank everyone for the great e-mails and messages I get from my blog readers and YOUTUBE viewers, they are uplifting and a pleasure to read. I try to respond as quick as I can to them, but with work there is sometimes a lag in responding on my part, but I do read them daily.

An interesting Cubby Ace factoid: This was another trio of aces like the last trio I had under an hour on the same 3 holes in the same order.

After I closed the store early Saturday morning, I headed to Rutgers for some Night Disc Golf. I arrived at the course at 3:30AM. I got lots of rounds in and I got Ace 396 on Hole 17 captured on video. I also chained out of Hole 14 just missing the Ace.

After closing the store early in the morning on Tuesday, I headed up to Rutgers for some night Disc Golf. I got my 393rd, 394th, and 395th Aces in the span of 51 minutes. I ace'd with the Pindragon, Midknight, and Axe from Black Jax Sports.

Headed over to the Forge Pond Golf Course for a round of ball Golf. It was a hot day on the course and it took a long time to play as we waited on some slow groups playing in front of us.

After Ball Golf, I headed to Rob's private Bunker Hill Disc Golf Course for 3 rounds. I won the first two rounds and Rob won the last round in a one hole playoff. Nice shooting Rob!

During one of my rounds, I got stopped by the Police. It seems that the cleaning people at one of the buildings was concerned about me out during the early morning hours. The Police Officer gave me his business card and recommended that I call the station whenever I come out for Night Disc Golf.

Headed to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course after work on Friday Night. Got in lots of rounds and I played until the 2009 Jersey Jam Disc Golf Tournament started on Saturday morning. I got my 389th Ace on hole 8 with a Champion Groove before the event.

Here I am with the group I played in during the the first round of the Jersey Jam.
This was my first tournament competing in the Advaced Grand Masters Division. After the first round I was in the lead over Mel by 2strokes and Miguel by 3 strokes. The Disc Devils provided a great cook out for lunch.

Here I am in the lead group of Grand Masters during the second round. I was up by two strokes with 2 holes to go with Miguel and Mel tied for second. I held on for the win and Miguel edged out Mel for second. Miguel and Mel played great during both rounds. I had a great time during both rounds with everyone I got to throw with during the tournament.

It was a fun event and the Disc Devils and all of the volunteers did a great job. It was fun to see old friends and make new ones during the event and nice to chat with so many people about my blog and YOUTUBE videos.

After the event I headed to work for a busy night on the boardwalk. After a long 40 hour stretch without sleep it was great to get home and got to bed when I got home on Sunday morning.

Headed up to the Rutgers Disc Golf Course for 18 holes with 5 Irish university students that are working for me this summer. They all did a great job and had a blast.

Tuesday Disc Golf at Rutgers and Dunham Park and Ball Golf at Lakewood Country Club and a chat with Jason Scheff of the band Chicago

After work on Monday I headed up to Rutgers for some night Disc Golf.

Before the first round, I called up Jason Scheff on the phone. Jason is the Bass Player and Lead Vocalist with America's greatest rock band, Chicago. Hopefully Jason will be checking out my blog and YOUTUBE videos.

After Rutgers, I headed to Karl M's house for some Discs.

After my visit to Karl's house I got in some rounds at Dunham Park. I got my 388th Ace on hole 6 with a Disctaft FLX Buzzz.

After Disc Golf, I headed home for a shower then I headed over to the Lakewood Country Club Golf Course for a round of Ball Golf with Pete and Jimmy.

It was a long day, after ball golf I headed home for some sleep.

Headed over to Tim's private Green Acres Disc Golf Course for some early morning rounds before heading to work on Sunday. Tom played well defending the number 1 tag for two rounds. Miguel got my number 2 tag the first round and I took him by 1 stroke to get the number two tag back during the second round.

I got my FLX Surge back that was found along the stream by Tim earlier in the week.

Tuesday Ball Golf at Forge Pond and Disc Golf at Chimney Rock and Greenbrook Meadows

Pete, Karl, and Cubby

Played a round of ball Golf with Pete and Karl M. at the Forge Pond Golf Course. Karl displayed excellent form and played an impressive round.

After the round Pete sold me some clubs and we got some lunch.

After lunch, Karl and I headed up to Chimney Rock Disc Golf course for 18 holes. It was raining with lightning so we went to Karl's house to wait out the bad weather.

After the lightning passed, Karl and I headed to Green brook Meadows Disc Golf Course for 72 holes. I missed two aces chaining out both times. This is a fun nine hole course.

It was a fun day of Ball Golf and Disc Golf. No pictures of DG due to the rain.

Headed to Tim E's private Green Acres Disc Golf Course for a couple of rounds of Disc Golf in the early morning. Tim strikes a Michael Jackson pose in honor of the recent passing of the King of Pop.

During the first round, Side Arm Mike got an Ace on the first hole on the "Cubby Trap" Disc Golf Target with a fore hand drive deflection off of a tree and into the basket. This was the first time Mike has thrown at this target. Nice shot Mike!

We played one more round and then I headed to work.

Headed to Lakewood Country Club Golf Course for a round of Ball Golf with my friend Pete and his friend Jimmy and his friend Bob. I was happy to shoot a 98 as this is the first time I have played a Par 72 course in about 10 years and my third round this year. Hitting a bucket of balls before the round helped. Looks like I will be playing Ball Golf regularly on Tuesdays.

Headed to Rob's private Bunker Hill Disc Golf Course for some early rounds before going to work. During the first round I threw with Big John and his daughter Alison. Big John brought lots of discs for CTP's.

Here we are for the Sunday Tag Challenge Round. There was a three way tie for the top three tags. Rob, Cubby, and Tom went to a playoff with Rob getting the No. 1 Tag followed by Cubby then Tom. Rob cooked some Hot Dogs for Father's Day after the round and we got in one more round on a rainy day with Rob defending the No. 1 Tag.

Wednesday Disc Golf at Sedgley Woods and the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my two of my three daughters for a round of Disc Golf at Sedgley Woods.

Here I am with my friend, Philly regular John known as "Stash".

Jennifer won over Jessica by one hole in match play. I shot a 5 down with some close ace runs. Jennifer, my oldest, turns 27 on the 18th of June. Happy Birthday Jenny!

After the round we headed to Citizens Bank Park in Philly to see the Phillies play the Blue Jays. It rained during the game but we stayed dry in Asher's Chocolates Suite. The Blue jays scored lots of runs in the first inning and the Phillies did not come back.

I get lots of e-mails and comments and personal messages from my blog posts and YOUTUBE videos. I try to respond to everyone that has a question or comment for me unless it is a negative item and those I just ignore. I recently received a private message through my YOUTUBE account that I would like to share with my Blog readers. I have permission from the person that sent this message to share it with you. I am sharing this message because it was kind, appreciative and thoughtful and it also is some great feedback for me on the impact that my Blog and YOUTUBE videos have on some nice people out there.

Here is the message I received from Brandon Stephens:

First off....... I had never even heard of disc golf until I ran across a video of you on youtube. I watched every one of your videos and fell in love with the sport before i even had thrown a disc. And whats crazy is that theres a 9 hole disc golf course in the park in my neighborhood. Had never known what the baskets were used for. Its awesome man, me and my friends play every day. And its like the course is ours because not many people know about this little 9 hole course. I started playing in February and have almost played every day since i started. Its the most addicting sport ive ever played. And I have a course in my neighborhood so that makes it even better. Anyway, I started playing mini's in the end of April. And thanks to you I hit my first ace on a forearm skip to win the ace pot of $765.00. That was probably the biggest rush I have ever had. And its all thanks to you. I just thought I would tell you how grateful I am for the videos you post. Thanks for all the knowledge you put out there. Headed up to Rutgers for some Disc Golf after work on Monday. I played until 5 AM Tuesday morning. I got my 383rd Ace, a lefty Ace with an Axe from Black JAX Sports.

After a morning Thunderstorm, I headed to Tim E's. private Green Acres Disc Golf Course. We played two all lefty rounds. Cubby took Tim's #1 tag and gave Tim the #3 Tag.

Tuesday Disc Golf at Rutgers and Ball Golf at Forge Pond

After closing the shop around Midnight on Tuesday, I headed up to Rutgers for some Night Disc Golf. I got four Aces before heading home. The first Ace was on hole 12. I threw a Buzzz right between the center two guardian trees for the Ace. I don't think anyone has Aced this hole by hitting this route. I chained out of the target last year through this route. This was one of my coolest (and straightest)shots for an Ace.

I felt great and figured if I just spent the rest of the day playing that I would definately have a shot at breaking my peresonal best of 6 aces in a day but decided to head home for some sleep. I got home at 5AM. Would there be a chance for more Disc Golf today?

I got up at 6AM and went back to bed at 10 AM. After a little sleep, here I am with my friend Pete during our round of Ball Golf. We had a 12:20 PM tee time at Forge Pond Golf Course in Brick, NJ. I shaved 13 strokes off of the round I shot at this course last week. After Ball Golf I called it a day and headed home. Pete gave me a great package deal on a top of the line Taylor Made Driver, 3 Wood, and 7 Wood. I even got me a county Golf ID card today as I will probably be playing on Tuesdays and the county card will save me some money on my greens fees.
